Privacy
This is a small research site. It is not run for profit and it does not sell, trade, or share visitor data.
Analytics
Page views are counted with a self-hosted instance of
GoatCounter at stats.glengyle.org.
The counter sets no cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, does not
follow people across sites, and stores no IP addresses in its
database. What it records is a hashed daily session identifier, the
URL viewed, the referring page, the browser and screen size, and the
country derived from the request. The aggregate per-page totals are
publicly readable at stats.glengyle.org.
Contact form
The contact form collects the name, email address, and message you enter. Those details are sent only to the keeper.
Before the form is submitted, a Cloudflare Turnstile widget runs in your browser to confirm the request is not from a bot. Turnstile sees only its own challenge signals and issues a short-lived token; the name, email address, and message are not shared with Cloudflare. Cloudflare's Turnstile privacy addendum governs that check.
Messages are delivered by email to the keeper and kept only for as long as is useful for replying and for ongoing research correspondence. Email addresses given through the form are not added to any mailing list without a separate, explicit request.
Mailing lists
The mailing lists are opt-in. Subscribing records the address you give and the lists you have joined. You can unsubscribe at any time from the footer of any list message or by writing to the keeper.
Server logs
The web server keeps short-lived request logs for operational reasons - spotting errors, tuning caching, blocking abusive traffic. These include the requested URL, the response status, the user agent, and the source IP address. Logs are not used for analytics.
Third parties
A small number of pages cause your browser, or this site on your behalf, to talk to other organisations:
- The contact page loads the Cloudflare Turnstile widget
from
challenges.cloudflare.com, as described above. - The timeline and any notebook page with an embedded
YouTube video loads thumbnails from
i.ytimg.comon page load, and the full YouTube player fromyoutube.comonce you click to play. Both are governed by Google's privacy policy. - Maps that show photographs from the
Geograph Britain and Ireland project
fetch the photograph index and thumbnails from
api.geograph.org.ukandgeograph.org.ukas you pan the map. - When you view a map, the underlying map tiles come from Ordnance Survey or MapTiler, depending on the layer chosen. The request is forwarded by this site, the tile coordinates and approximate map area you are viewing are passed on in the process.
No tracking pixels, ad networks, or social-media "like" widgets are loaded anywhere on the site.
Corrections and removals
If you appear on the site and would like material about you corrected or removed, or if you would like a copy of any messages you have sent through the contact form, get in touch via the contact form or write to the keeper at steven [dot] robertson [at] glengyle [dot] org.
