Rob Roy (b. ~1671, d. 1734), third son of V Domhnall Glas, is the best-known descendant of Dubhgall ciar. His four sons take the family in distinctly different directions: Coll's line (treated on its own page) produces the HEICS chiefs and the Canadian emigrants, and supplies chieftain XII Norman MacGregor when the senior line fails in 1897; Ranald's line stays as innkeepers and tradespeople in Balquhidder under the alias Drummond; James Mor goes into exile at Dunkirk after the kidnapping of Jean Key; Robin oig is hanged at Edinburgh in 1754 for that same abduction, and his illegitimate son Colin's descendants later buy and hold the Glengyle estate itself, the line through Colin's grandson James (b. 1819) succeeding to it in the nineteenth century.
